Bakelite was invented by Dr. L. H. Baekeland in 1909.  This thermoset phenolic formadehyde resin was inexpensive to produced and very versatile.  By 1920, bakelite was used in the making of jewelry.  During the Depression and World War II it gained in popularity because money was scarce and bakelite was inexpensive.  Bakelite pieces were fun and showy.  By 1950, the bakelite trend had ended.  And then, Mr. Robinson, it was all about plastic! Today, bakelite jewelry has been rediscovered by collectors with prices rising.

#B-BAS-501.  These beautiful bakelite bangles are fresh from an elderly woman's estates.  They are both marbleized, highly polished and each contains three shiny gold ornaments.  Condition: Mint.  FABULOUS!  Price: $352.00.

#B-RD-504.  A gorgeous deeply carved and open cut polished red cherry bakelite bracelet.  Excellent condition.  Price: $325.00
 
#B-HH-505.  You will love this deeply carved amber bakelite horse pin with brace bridle trim and glass eye.  Size: 2 1/3' tall x 3" wide. Highly collectible.  Excellent condition.  Price: $285.00.

#B-BR-507.   This is a wonderfully highly polished deeply carved cut-out bar pin of bakelite.  Excellent condition.  Price: $70.00.
 
#B-RD-508.  You will want to add this rare cherry red bakelite acorns and bakelite leaves necklace to your collection.  The links are made of celluloid.  The large acorns measure 1 1/6" each and the necklace has five bakelite red acorns.  They measure 1 7/8".  This necklace looks just fabulous on---16" long.  Price: $462.00.
